The alliance will serve as a new platform for international coordinati

Singer created a false profile for Guo, presenting her as

s a competitive soccer player. He paid former Yale women’s soccer coach Rudolph Mered

ith $400,000 to pass Guo off as a recruited player, despite Guo never having played soccer competitively.

Guo has since been expelled by Yale. Meredith resigned and pleaded guilty to federal fraud-related charges.

Neither the Guos nor the Zhaos have been charged in the investigation, which was

made public in March. Federal prosecutors have charged 50 people in six states, inc

luding 33 parents who allegedly paid a total of $25 million to Singer between 2011 and February this year.

The typical sum ranges from $15,000 to $75,000 per child for rigged college entrance exams, and $100,00

0 to $400,000 per child for what Singer called his “side door” to admission-guaranteed access to top institutions. M

ost international students gain admission through the “front door”-doing it on their own.

In court, Singer admitted using his charity, the Key Worldwide Foundation, to collect payments from parents and bribin

g coaches and others. He has pleaded guilty to racketeering and other charges and is awaiting sentencing.

Parents who have pleaded guilty or agreed to do so include the preside

nt of a California real estate company and his wife, and the actress Felicity Huffman.

In recent years, sales in many sectors in lower-tier cit

ities have grown more quickly than in big cities, including clothing, food, beverages and home appliances, Chen added.

During Spring Festival in February, small-town youths in third- an

d lower-tier cities outperformed their peers in bigger centers of population in consu

mption across major e-commerce platforms, including the number of orders placed and the range of products bought.

In third- and fourth-tier cities, total online spending during Spring Festival rose by 55 percent year-on-year, comp

ared with 51 percent in first-tier metropolises. Spending by small-town youths on beauty products rose by 7.8 perc

ent year-on-year, compared with a 5.4 percent increase among their peers in larger cities, according to a report rel

eased by Tmall-Alibaba’s e-commerce platform-and market research company Kantar Worldpanel.

Small-town youths have also boosted the movie industry. For example, in the first quarter of this year, some

56 percent of the box office for The New King of Comedy came from lower-tier cities, as did 46 percent for Crazy Alien.

Huang Jing, 25, from Jiangyin, Jiangsu province, said

she buys cosmetics, handbags and clothing from top brands through cross-border e-commer

ce platforms every month. Sometimes, she drives for one to two hours to neighboring bigger cities, such a

s Wuxi in Jiangsu, and Shanghai for shopping. She also plans two or three overseas trips every year.

“I don’t have any housing or car loans, and don’t have to worry about daily costs, as I live with my parents. I usually spend all my sa

lary on daily consumption and entertainment, which is quite common for people such as myself,” she said.

Jason Yu, managing director of Kantar Worldpanel, said small-to

wn youths look to the internet for the latest information, products and lifest

yles. The gap between young people in lower-tier cities and those in metropolises has narrowed greatly.

“Small-town youths now have broader horizons, are well informed, and some have even started to lead ‘avant-garde’ lifestyles,” he said.

A purported doctor who goes by the alias Dahanc

chengxiang recently wrote a WeChat article saying he often encountered patients who fell for the fake adverti

sements, wasted money and treatment time and thus missed the opportunity to be cured.

The netizen also strongly opposed Li’s nomination shortly after the announce

tising. The article went viral on social media but was removed over complains of libel by Baidu.

Li would not be the first controversial engineer to become an acade

mician, which carries perks such as stipends and medical se

bacco products, became an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Hu Qizheng, a professor at the institute who teaches fun

damentals of the space industry, said Chinese teachers are exp

loring approaches that are appropriate for instructing foreign students.

“Some of the students have work experience in the space sector because their countries have satellites, while othe

rs don’t have such experience and know virtually nothing about space activities,” he said. “So we have been wor

king to figure out an appropriate teaching schedule and to make sure everyone’s individual needs can be taken care of.”

The students’ first year at the institute was focused on basic knowledge about space p

rograms, while in the second year each of them will be given a detailed topic for research, Hu said.

Teaching materials given to the foreign trainees were modified from those prepared for Chinese students, while teach

ers are making textbooks specifically edited for foreign learners, the professor said.

I was premier of New South Wales for the long

est time. I got to know the Chinese community and got to appreciate its loyalty to Australia an

d its democracy and cannot imagine Australia without them. They are not pushing a communist par

ty agenda. Now they feel uncomfortable with headlines that associate them with disloyalty.

Chinese-Australians need to set up an organization

And I will offer my advice and support when they are ready to set up an organization to defend this proposition.

It should be an organization without any links to Beijing or any obl

igation to defend China’s system of government, an organization that will assert that mig

rants from China who do the right thing should not be subject to taunts and stereotypes and vilification.

With this, it might be said, Chinese migrants in Australia will stand up, just as the Jewish migrants did in the US.

Wang Zhiguo, chairman and president of Shenzhen

Skyworth-RGB Electronic, a subsidiary of Skyworth Group, said the express helped reduce logistics time by more than 66 percent.

Enticed by the growing influence of China Railway Express on China-Europe trade, more compa

That includes electronics giant TCL Corp, Lenovo Group, the world’s

The production of Skyworth, TCL and electronics company Dell in Chengdu also saw significant growth.

It is sometimes called Cantonese cancer, as the inciden

e in Guangdong – 30 cases per 100,000 people – is more than 30 times higher than the rest of the world.

When Ma was a visiting scholar in the United States, he found many patients we

re Chinese-American, and most of their families were originally from Guangdong.

An epidemiology study in 2010 traced the risk gene for this type of cance

r to the Baiyue people, an ethnic group that lived in the area more than 2,000 years ago.

In 1998, the US National Comprehensive Cancer Network proposed concomitant radiothera

py and chemotherapy along with three courses of intensified adjuvant chemotherapy afterward to treat patients with a

dvanced nasopharyngeal cancer. It became the standard treatment for advanced cases around the world.

For years, Ma has wondered if it really worked for Chinese people.

Foreign investment in Beijing property may hit record

Foreign investors have been increasingly active in Beijing’s property market this year,

with their transactions projected to reach a record high in 2019, industry experts said.

“We see an increasing proportion of foreign investors’ participating

in Beijing’s property market this year, and we are expecting another round of brisk inves

tment this year,” said Liu Bing, deputy managing director of DTZ China’s capital market department.

“This is mainly due to the appreciation of the dollar since last year and tightening financing channels for domestic players.”

According to DTZ foreign investors have reached 10 block deals valued more than 25 billion y

uan ($3.7 billion) in Beijing’s property market from the beginning of 2018 till the first quarter of 2019.

Statistics from JLL indicate that foreign investors continue to show interest in the market this year.
